	The total quantum of land is 1,75,620 hectares, out of which 58,716.41 hectares is irrigated. The average irrigated area is 30% only compared to the average of 66% in West Bengal. Thus, the crops depend largely on the whims and fancies of nature, particularly during monsoon. This district is flood-prone, which occurs almost every year. On the other hand, sometimes drought hits and the cultivators cry hoarse for water.
